G&H Torquay is a fast-growing business specialising in design and manufacture of passive fibre-optic components, fibre lasers, and fibre optic modules for performance in rugged environments such as under sea and in space. We are currently recruiting for an additional Manufacturing Engineer to join our Torquay site, to develop new and existing manufacturing processes including documentation, equipment and procedures. You would be working as part of a multifunctional team, continuously improving manufacturing methods, tooling, fixture, and process flow.

Main duties include;

Leading the development of new processes/ machines, and improvement projects

Being responsible for specification or the support of, and commissioning of new manufacturing equipment (CAPEX)

Perform the roles and responsibilities of ME within the NPI process

Be involved in DFx input to new products

Evaluate existing manufacturing processes and workflows to identify areas that could benefit from changes and improvements

Manage the testing and replacement of obsolescent production consumables

Leads PFMEA and capability/repeatability improvement activities

Working to comply with company Health, Safety and Environmental requirements

Ideal candidates will have the following;

Degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent or working experience matching expectations of role

Strong experience of working within Manufacturing Engineering teams within a NPI environment

Results orientated lead by site KPI’s, experience in problem solving techniques

Ability / robustness to self-prioritise work packages within a dynamic agile NPI Environment

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Experience of leading multi-disciplinary teams

Process mapping and PFMEA/control plan development

Awareness of Optics, Fibre Optics, Electronics or Assembly manufacture would be advantageous

Experience of lean manufacturing and six sigma (DMAIC)
