Located in Rochester, NY and founded in 1916, G&H | GS Optics specializes in the custom design and manufacture of precision polymer optics for use in the biomedical, healthcare diagnostics, machine vision and analytical instrument markets, as well as military and civilian night-vision and visible-range sighting applications. In addition to the highly automated injection molding process, it has well established in-house capabilities to provide custom designed diamond turned and injection molded prototypes, thin film anti reflective and reflective coatings and integrated optical assembly solutions.

We are currently recruiting for a Program Manager to our team! The Program Manager is responsible for the development of new programs through first samples and production runs, and management of existing programs, with focus on challenging and/or strategic programs and cost management. This position assists with initial customer quotes, assists Applications Engineers with determining correct tooling, raw material and packaging for the program. Additionally, the position is responsible for the productivity of the program schedules, preparation of internal documentation such as work instructions, quality plans and customer specified reporting, creation and manipulation of CAD drawings for successful completion of programs, improvement of efficiency programs, such as, scrap reduction, cycle time, and handling.

Responsibilities:

  1. Lead and direct projects to successful and timely completion, within budget, while building and maintaining team atmosphere.
  2. Encourages others, through respect and professionalism, to assume responsibilities and develop a winning attitude to commit each day to earning the customers’ trust, and meeting customers’ requirements.
  3. Align goals with the strategic plans of G-S Plastics Optics. Raise individual performance to levels that result in proactive responses to problem solving and continuous improvement by all employees.
  4. Ensure timely delivery of quality tooling, parts, assemblies, etc.

Interact with suppliers regarding tooling specifications, and communicate development objectives. Manage supplier partners’ quality and deadlines.

Assist in the design and implementation of degating and coating fixtures and tooling.

  1. Work with Molding, Machining, Tooling and Diamond Turning and Coating team to establish and monitor process parameters to ensure that quality parts are being produced.
  2. Provide input on processes and procedures, including suggesting improvements.
  3. Identify potential safety issues and react appropriately to minimize risk of incidents.

Able to work well in a team environment for development of programs.

Flexibility with temporary and makeshift processes and procedures.

Help train and guide other team members.

Maintain clean and orderly work environment.

Working to comply with company Health, Safety and Environmental requirements.

Monitor emerging technologies and evaluate applicability to the business and customer needs.

  1. Work closely with VP of Operations– G-S Plastic Optics to understand and accomplish Program completions that satisfy customer needs.
  2. Position will involve responsibilities in other departments depending on candidate skill set and on an as-needed basis to support evolving business needs.

Skills/Experience/Education

BS in related field, preferably Engineering field and/or related experience

Minimum 3 Years of Experience in Program Management, Injection Molding and Metrology

Optics-geometrical and physical

Must be proficient in Solidworks, MS Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint and Access and Outlook.

Excellent communication skills

Strong organizational skills in order to lead a team
