  •  To assist the operations team to improve the manufacturing of product by optimising and developing processes for product build, test and inspection that exceed customer requirements.
  • To develop and implement efficient production equipment and fixtures to increase production rates and reduce process variation.
  • The role will support NPI projects with the key focus around delivering the new product designs to manufacturing

Job Responsibilities

  • You will scope and develop processes and test regimes, implement production equipment, cost control and process risk assessments.
  • You will provide engineering expertise to deliver projects and provide production support to ensure the safe and efficient operation of build and test processes.
  • To provide technical support and expertise on manufacturing processes in order to improve performance with regard to quality, output, productivity and cost.
  • Constantly review and investigate industry technology improvements and suggest best practice manufacturing and processes where applicable.
  • You will establish manufacturing standards, monitor performance and analyse deviations across the manufacturing facility as required.
  • Support the training of new and existing processes, raising training and process corrective actions with manufacturing when required.
  • To assist with the development of and implementation of quality improvements, including the generation and maintenance of FMEA’s, process flows, statistical process control, scrap reduction.
  • Develop testing regimes and bespoke solutions as required and complete Measurement Systems Analysis, gauge R&R, gold standard testing and implement control standards.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience


  • Knowledge of fibre optics/photonics build and test equipment and how to use it.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Lean Manufacturing & Continual Improvement strategy.
  • Have an understanding of NPI strategy and objectives, and the timelines for delivery of new products to the site.
  • Have awareness of scorecard KPIs, understand how Process Engineering actions and strategy effects site performance.
  • Knowledge of H&S to a level where issues can be highlighted and managed by the appropriate personnel.
  • Experience of electronics and test software applications i.e. LabView.

  • Degree level (or equivalent) qualification in an engineering and/or scientific subject.



  • 3+ years’ experience in a technical manufacturing environment.
  • Proven industry experience working as an Engineer in Optics, Fibre Optics, Electronics or Assembly manufacture.
  • Exposure to a LEAN manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing processes and quality tools & techniques
  • The ability to prioritise and meet conflicting demands
