Here at G&H Torquay we manufacture a line of active and passive fibre optic components and modules offer the performance and reliability required for some of the most demanding and challenging applications in the world. We are currently recruiting for a Product Engineer - As part of the Product Engineering team, you will have responsibility for meeting business performance commitments to key stakeholders, and overall responsibility and accountability for all aspects of NPI projects assigned following the NPI process, product design, and process design. Product Engineers are expected to adhere to the product development strategy, which provides the site with the market offering to meet the business growth objectives, and offer support to other areas of the business with Project, Product and Process Engineering skills when required through the correct escalation process.
Responsibilities;
Deliver New Products from initial prototypes into volume manufacturing that meet specification and low-cost requirements
Understanding and up-to-date knowledge of the NPI process as well as the requirements of our current (ISO9001) and future (AS9100) quality management systems
Ensure that all projects assigned are fully auditable to the current site accreditations and work with quality manager to implement any suggested quality improvements
Meet deadlines, maintaining clear communication with all stakeholders
Appropriate deployment of NPI processes, meeting all design milestone objectives
Assist Product Engineering projects using tools such as Gantt, Project Status etc. Focusing on agreed KPI’s
To assist with the implementation of quality improvements, including leading and maintaining PFMEA’s and introducing risk mitigation
Support the technical responsibility for RMA process where appropriate
Timely and correct classification and distribution of assigned ECO’s
Support and challenge Manufacturing Engineering with regards to cost reduction of processes
Support ongoing production where there is a requirement for product knowledge
Ideal candidates will have the following attributes;
Engineering (Optics / Electronics / Mechanical / Software) or Science based Degree or equivalent experience. Experience in photonics preferable
3+ years’ experience in an engineering or manufacturing role, photonics / fibre optics experience would be advantageous
Experience in technical design, process development and project management
Proven internal presentation skills
Experience in manufacturing environment essential.
Understanding and experience of Project Management methods and tools and how to implement these in a multi-disciplined team environment.
Knowledge of H&S to a level where risk assessments can be carried out and effectively managed
