We are currently recruiting for a Director to head up the Research and Development Hub, to expand the engineering capabilities of the business, develop new product lines and deliver on major internal and external development programs.
The R&D Director will drive the design and development of new products and solutions that merge optics, opto-mechanics and ultimately mechatronics in diverse photonics applications including Aerospace, Defense and Space. S/he will be expected to drive the design, build and test of innovative optical systems and facilitate transfer into manufacturing by applying internal or customer-driven product development plans.
Main duties include;
Lead strategic R&D Programs that comprise several well bounded, focused projects
In collaboration with other functions of the business, identify technology trends, generate product roadmaps and define the necessary R&D required in order to intercept new opportunities and achieve revenue growth
Lead appropriate reviews and significantly contribute to engineering lifecycle reviews, tailoring to project requirements. Lead / chair combined New Product Introduction gate reviews that illustrate the physical design implementation
Work with Business Development and Sales to support RFQ/RFIs with technical solutions
Prepare presentation material and reports to a high standard for all phases of the project, and attend customer meetings
Record design development and findings in accordance with ISO9001-compliant procedures.
Ideal candidates will have the following;
Essential:
Educated to at least bachelor degree level in mechanical, optical or systems engineering
Flexibly working is a necessity as part of a team or autonomously as required in task and objective achievement
Adaptable in often rapid changing design requirements and customer needs
Experience of optical design using 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks or equivalent
Meticulousness, Diligence, Disciplined and capacity to work to deadlines and goals
Passion to solving complex problems and issues using evidence-based approaches
Inclination to adapt, absorb and conduct substantial change
Desired:
Experienced in designing Aerospace and/or Defence systems.
Experienced with the Zemax and/or ANSYS
Knowledge on stress and thermal analysis of optical and opto-mechanical systems
Experience in athermalised optomechanical structures
Understanding of assembly, integration and testing of optical systems
Familiar with testing and qualification based on Telcordia, MIL-STD or ESCC / ECSS
