Here at G&H Ilminster we research, develop and engineer optical elements used in aerospace and defence applications. We are currently looking for a Toolmaker / CNC Machinist able to manufacture and repair tooling of both metal and glass using manual and CNC machines.

Main duties include;

  • Manufacturing and repairing of tooling both metal and glass to desired specifications, including the use of both manual and CNC machines.
  • Reading and understanding engineering drawings.
  • Ability to maintain a good level of housekeeping and maintain the toolroom standards.
  • Responsible for basic machine TPM
  • Maintaining stock levels of toolroom consumables
  • Using tool room equipment correctly and safely as intended.
  • Self-inspection of parts to maintain drawing requirements.

Ideal candidates will have the following;

  • Time Served Apprentice or HND/HNC, ideally with 5+ years’ experience
  • CNC programming of both lathe and 3 axis mill essential, 5 axis would be an advantage.
  • Ability to use Cam programming software an advantage.
  • Have a well-rounded knowledge of the various type of toolroom machinery, fittings, speeds and feeds.
  • Setting and operating of machinery.
  • Working to both engineering drawings and 3D models.
  • Use of standard work shop inspection equipment such as Vernier’s, micrometres and slip gauges.
