G&H began in Ilminster, Somerset, UK, in 1948, when Archie Gooch and Leslie Housego established Gooch & Housego as a manufacturer of scientific optical components and crystalline materials.

From these beginnings, the site has evolved into an advanced optical manufacturing facility. Today, G&H Ilminster specialises in precision optics and optical coatings alongside the manufacture of advanced vision systems, supporting demanding OEM and system applications across aerospace and defense, industrial and life sciences markets.

Ilminster also remains the historic home of G&H and an important part of our global photonics and optical manufacturing network.
