Hardware Systems Engineer

G&H – Based in Ashford, Kent

This position is based at our UK Centre of Excellence for Life sciences in Ashford, Kent. As a Hardware Systems Engineer, you will focus on product design and development of new imaging and sighting systems for Aerospace & Defence and Life Science. You will take responsibility for the electronics and firmware design of products from concept through to production taking into account requirements, timescales, cost and regulatory constraints. You will be working with colleagues across the business including product management and business development to support new commercial opportunities as well as operations, supporting technology transfer to manufacture. This is an exciting opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team of development engineers working on new cutting-edge products for applications in laser directed energy weapons, multi-band sighting systems for increased situational awareness as well as next-generation advanced medical imaging that will drive and deliver sustained revenue growth.

Main duties include;

Lead development of electronic solutions for a range of electro-optical products utilising FPGA, digital and analogue electronic hardware and software.

Provide electronic systems engineering inputs from concept to manufacture and test

Assist with requirements capture and specification definition, sensitivity analysis, reliability analysis as required

Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and perform electronic design, analysis and test

Prepare presentations and reports to a high standard for all phases of the project

Support handover from design to production

Work with Business Development and Engineering teams to support new opportunities and generate solutions for customers

Drive products from design, to prototyping up to environmental qualification following internal or customer-driven NPI

Ideal candidates will have the following;

  • Qualified to Degree Level 2:1 +
  • Demonstrable knowledge in digital and analogue signal processing
  • Analogue electronics design experience
  • Schematic capture and layout
  • Create and maintain technical documentation that supports the product development process including product specifications, manuals and end user instructions
  • Ability to create and give presentations to customers and partners
  • Knowledge or experience of the full design lifecycle, including taking designs from initial negotiations through requirements capture, sub-system design, hardware design and test to final integration.
  • Ability to work autonomously

Desirable:

  • Firmware development experience, C, (C++, C#, Python advantageous)
  • Understanding of qualification standards (e.g. MIL, STANAG, ESCC/ECSS)
  • Demonstratable knowledge in digital and analogue video processing
