Description

Primary task is to overhaul the Moorpark business management system whilst maintaining the existing AS9100 certification. This will include introduction of a centrally coordinated document system addressing; business processes, working level instructions and the associated change management. In addition, as part of the local management team steering a quality culture throughout the business of all staff being accountable for Product Quality, Right First Time and identifying solutions to problems. This will involving working with Manufacturing Engineering to ensure robust closed loop processes such as; MRB, Problem solving techniques through to effective Root Cause Analysis, along with demonstrating visual metrics.

 

In addition to the Site role, the job will include Quality overseeing responsibilities for the US Sites. This will also include liaising with Group functions such as; Commercial, Business Development, Engineering and Sales in supporting consistency with respect to quality related activities.

 

The primary reporting of the role will be to the SVP Global Quality with a dotted line to the local Operations Director in Moorpark

Job Responsibilities

Multi-site role (US Sites)

  • To work with the sites in developing and implementing global strategies aimed at process standardisation.
  • Establishing effective interfaces between Business Development organisation and the sites to ensure a robust Contract Review process, ensuring flow down requirements are both understood and achievable. Whist coordinating associated longer term accreditation needs.
  • Attending New Product Introduction & Commercial gate review’s in support of ensuring proactive involvement to identify risks and associated mitigation activities early in the product lifecycle.
  • Liaising with the regional Sales organisation in support of customer issues management.
  • Ensuring the Sites have effective business processes for resolving product quality issues and configuration/change management.
  • Overseeing Key Quality performance metrics and managing associated corrective action.
  • Supporting Supply Chain/Supplier Quality Management functions in respect to ensuring effective screening regimes exist within the site for material acceptance and appropriate control processes exist for works transfer activities.
  • Adopting AS9100 as a best practice tool to ensure effective business process in the wider group.
  • Development of Quality staff, succession planning and supporting the annual budgeting process

Site role

  • Work with the management team to overhaul the business management system and establish a structured approach to all documents, from policy through to manufacturing work instructions.
  • Ensuring robust processes are in place with respect to key business interactions, ie, Contract Review, Document Change Control and Product Change Notification.
  • Manage on site periodic audits in support of existing AS9100 accreditation and project manage any associated standards identified by flow down requirements.
  • Performing internal and manufacturing process compliance audits. Facilitating process corrective actions and business process improvements.
  • Ensuring effective MRB and QRB processes are in place along with key product assurance visual metrics.
  • Product verification activities – Identification of relevant regulatory requirements, Independent Reviews within NPI process for Release to Manufacture. FAIR (1st Articles), Product inspection and test plans.
  • Cost of Poor Quality – Working within a multi-functional team to ensure effective solutions in delivering projects to eliminate costs associated with waste. This will include product costs & process standard times in support of driving improvement in planning to delivery both OTD and profitability improvements.
  • Customer Returns – Oversee the Root Cause Analysis and preventative actions process.
  • Material inspection. Ensure effective in-coming inspection regimes, supporting supply chain in supplier performance and risk mitigation activities.
  • QMS Management Review Process.
  • Ensuring an effecting equipment calibration & preventive maintenance system.
  • Customer support – On site quality audits and questionnaires as required by the business

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

SPECIALIST FUNCTIONAL KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of current standards and accreditations.
  • Ensure US Sites are aligned with corporate strategy from a quality perspective.
  • Knowledge of corporate expectation for compliance and how it is resourced.
  • Be fully versed in scorecard KPIs, understand how Quality actions and strategy effects site performance.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree or equivalent in engineering, business or science related field preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years’ experience in a manufacturing related quality role.
  • Worked within a manufacturing environment with (eg ISO9001, AS9100, ISO14001).
  • Proven track record of implementing improvements using structured problem solving techniques.
  • Direct involvement with customer issues management from initiation to closure.
  • Evidence of Executive level management engagement.
  • Experience in photonics preferable.
  • Extensive experience of internal, external and customer audits essential.
