Unlike its nonlinear counterpart β-BBO, α-BBO is not phase-matchable for frequency conversion but offers excellent transparency (190–3000 nm), high damage threshold, and strong birefringence. These properties make α-BBO ideal for use in polarizers, waveplates, and optical isolators, particularly in high-power and UV laser systems.
