Semiconductors, Artificial Intelligence and Optical Computing: G&H to Showcase Advanced Photonics at SPIE Photonics West 2025

Events

January 2025 - Ilminster, United Kingdom

G&H (LON:GHH), the global innovator and manufacturer of photonics, optical systems and life sciences solutions, will be exhibiting one of the largest capability portfolios in high-tech developments at SPIE Photonics West 2025 held between January 28 – 30, 2025, at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California, United States. Known as the world’s biggest photonics technologies event, SPIE Photonics West 2025 will mark an opportunity for participants to interact with high-performance systems through product demonstrations, presentations and customer-catered conversations with G&H experts.

Photonic Solutions

Acousto-optic (AO) devices that cover the deep-UV to the mid-IR ranges and advanced fiber optics will represent the first tier of solutions highlighted by our photonics experts at the event. These applications are essential for enabling today’s Artificial Intelligence- and quantum-driven tech markets. For example, high-precision acousto-optic deflectors (AODs) and modulators (AOMs) play a major role in the inspection requirements for semiconductor wafers. Because of the increasing density of new wafers, the utilized deflectors and modulators need to support this added layer of complexity through a high-performance yielding design. Consequently, the acousto-optic components must deliver precise laser cutting, drilling, marking, and measuring. G&H supplies the widest portfolio of UV, visible and NIR AO products, to accommodate such specific demands.

To optimize quality and minimize production risk, it is important to stress that the entire AO solution ecosystem is 100% vertically integrated at G&H, from crystal growth to final testing. This approach promotes a higher degree of product quality and reliability for high-performance end-uses. Visit booth #1148 to explore G&H’s advanced products for semiconductor fabrication, processing and metrology, including modulators, deflectors as well as high reliability fiber devices and modules with the highest cleanliness levels.

Visible Wavelength PM Coupler©️ Visible Wavelength PM Coupler

The same robust working principles are characteristic of the bespoke G&H fiber optics line. One of the highlights of the conference is the new Visible PM Coupler, used in high power fiber lasers, metrology and life sciences applications such as DNA sequencing and flow cytometry. Based on G&H’s fused fiber technology, the Visible PM Coupler demonstrates very low optical loss, high power handling and high polarization extinction ratio. Other important G&H fiber-based solutions that will be showcased at booth #1148 are the Fiber-Q®ULTRA and our highly adaptable polarization diverse receivers (PDRs) – all fiber optics components that are vital elements of laser engines for sensing, imaging and systems requiring advanced photonic functionality.

G&H also offers advanced component and OEM module solutions using its fiber-optics and acousto-optics technology platform to underpin innovative applications in Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) for ophthalmology, cardiology and skin cancer screening. We will be exhibiting our product portfolio and photonic module OEM capabilities at the BiOS Expo booth #8533.

Stratos Kehayas, President of the Photonics Division at G&H, comments on the photonics innovations ready to be exhibited by the company: “Our product experts are here to explore how we can bring new customer ideas to life in laser-based manufacturing, biomedical imaging, fiber sensing, and quantum computing. What I love most about Photonics West are the brainstorming sessions where we discuss how our advanced range of photonic devices and OEM module capabilities can support customers in developing groundbreaking systems and solutions, one step at a time.

I have witnessed ideas that started as sketches during the conference evolve into full turnkey systems within just six months. It's incredibly rewarding to see these transformations take shape. The G&H team and I can’t wait to connect and collaborate on high-tech projects that customers can confidently entrust to us.”

Optical Systems Solutions

In terms of optical systems, G&H is pleased to add the enhanced optical capabilities of the recently acquired G&H | Phoenix Group. The new addition leverages next-generation precision optics solutions, from state-of-the-art thin film coatings to glass molding and annealing. Championing one of the largest diamond turning facilities in Europe along with full CNC polishing, edging, generating, and prism polishing capabilities, the G&H | Phoenix team firms up existing portfolio options of the larger Group with its in-house, customized capabilities.

Additionally, G&H will present its latest innovation in optical polishing via its novel Low Surface Roughness Polishing methodology through which complex optical systems can benefit from a lower surface roughness, something that traditional superpolishing methods are unable to provide.

Bill Keating, Executive Vice President of Optical Systems at G&H, states: “G&H’s optical solutions are designed to meet the growing demands from various sectors working with glass and similar materials. Innovations like our Low Surface Roughness Polishing and atomic-grade superpolishing demonstrate that merely maintaining the technological status quo isn’t enough to drive progress. As one of the few global OEM brands that are known for impeccable quality and high-performance solutions, we believe our presence at SPIE Photonics West 2025 will reflect our long-standing commitment to manufacturing premium optical components.”
