Product description

G&H Germanium windows provide excellent transmission in the mid-wave and long-wave infrared (MWIR and LWIR) regions, making them ideal for critical IR applications. Manufactured from high-purity monocrystalline Germanium, these windows offer low dispersion, high refractive index (~4.0), and exceptional surface hardness.

Our precision-polished Germanium windows are available uncoated or with advanced anti-reflective (AR) or diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings, tailored to optimize performance and environmental durability. With low absorption and minimal thermal expansion, they are particularly suited for passive and high-power IR systems operating in harsh environments.

Key features

  • Broad Infrared Transmission: High transmission across 2–14 µm, ideal for MWIR and LWIR systems
  • High Refractive Index (~4.0 @ 10.6 µm): Enables compact optical designs and efficient IR beam control
  • Excellent Surface Hardness: Knoop hardness of 780 provides strong resistance to scratches and abrasion
  • High Thermal Stability: Performs reliably in extreme temperature ranges, ideal for aerospace and defense
  • Low Dispersion: Maintains focus and clarity across the infrared spectrum
  • Custom Coating Options: Compatible with AR (Anti-Reflective) and DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coatings for enhanced transmission and environmental durability
  • Environmental Resistance: Chemically stable and moisture-resistant; DLC-coated windows provide rugged protection in harsh or outdoor settings
  • Precision Fabrication: Available in tight flatness, parallelism, and surface quality specifications to meet demanding optical system requirements
  • Low Thermal Expansion: Minimizes distortion under changing thermal loads, preserving optical alignment
  • Applications Versatility: Suitable for use in thermal imaging, IR spectroscopy, laser systems, and sensor protection windows
