G&H at Photonics West 2024: Introducing Apollo, new pockels cell live demo and more

Events

Ilminster, United Kingdom – January, 2024

G&H, a world leader in photonic engineering and manufacturing, will be returning to San Francisco, CA between January 27th and February 1st for the 2024 Photonics West conference and exhibition with exciting industry updates. The company will also attend BiOS, one of the most important biophotonics, biomedical optics, and imaging meetings taking place between January 27th and 28th, 2024. During the two events, the photonics industry leader will be taking the opportunity to unveil the latest set of innovations in acousto-optics, electro-optics, fiber optics, precision optics, and optical systems.

“We are treating our presence at this year’s Photonics West and BiOS conferences as a natural follow-up to a comprehensive research period facilitated by our global team in 2023,” said Stratos Kehayas, the CPTO of G&H. “I believe our prepared product portfolio will reflect the constant conversations we have been having with industry actors. Those who will visit the G&H exhibition spaces will notice the results of this focused effort through advanced products such as the low voltage Lithium Niobate (LN) Pockels cells, a revolutionizing concept for life sciences, or the Apollo zoom lenses for the aerospace business, a high-resolution system adherent to resisting a tough radiation environment, among others. Of course, we are looking forward to the discussions that will unfold during both conferences, and especially those we will entertain at the G&H booths with the parties interested in learning more about our innovations.”

G&H will be showcasing a full range of optics and photonics products, including high-performance laser systems, advanced optical components, and custom photonics solutions. Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn more about G&H’s cutting-edge research and development efforts, while exploring potential partnerships and collaborations. Below are the G&H product highlights that are being rolled out at Photonics West 2024 and BiOS 2024.

Aerospace & Defence

The Apollo zoom lenses for space applications will be the front-and-center A&D product at the G&H booth this year. As part of the custom optics system solutions offered by the photonics company, this feature is built with both tech performance and customer business goals in mind.

On the one side, incorporating radiation-hardened glass in combination with standard glass materials allows the lens system to withstand the radiation-rich environments encountered in space without compromising on optical resolution. This innovative design also limits transmission losses over time. Regarding business efficiency, the Apollo lenses ease the space-grade optical assembly process, including their qualification methodology, making it a more approachable business opportunity.

Optical Systems Product Manager JJ Conboy will be available to answer questions about Apollo, as well as discuss how G&H can meet the optical systems needs of the market.

Industrial & Telecom

In line with an Industry 4.0 operability standard, G&H will showcase its single-mode fused fiber coupler range (SM couplers), a subsea telecom heritage product group.

With more than 20 years of market experience, this high-reliability solution is facilitating a smart outlook on telecom cable projects which require very low loss and high-power handling. From visible wavelength couplers with a range of 450–700 nm to fused couplers of 2µm, near infrared WDMs and sub-miniature tap couplers, the varied technology package will fit any venture that requires long-distance communication and high-speed data transmission.

Fiber Optic Product Director Toby Reid will be available to discuss G&H’s past successes and future uses of the single-mode fused fiber coupler range, as well as introduce other innovative, ultra-reliable fiber optics capabilities for the industrial and telecom sector.

Life Sciences

One of the most interactive spaces at Photonics West 2024 will center around G&H’s live demo (February 1st) of the groundbreaking low voltage Lithium Niobate (LN) Pockels cells, a new revolutionizing product line in the life sciences field. A vertically integrated, cost-effective innovation, this new type of Pockels cell is the answer to the market’s more versatile laser requirements, operating at low voltage, with a high repetition rate, and a wide operating wavelength range.

The x-cut Lithium Niobate (LN) crystals grown at G&H offer low loss, high contrast ratio, and low wavefront distortion, maximizing precision and efficiency. During the live demo, G&H Vice President of Optics and Optical Systems Lars Sandström will explain the major improvements brought in by the low voltage Lithium Niobate (LN) Pockels cells, as well as answer any forthcoming questions.

Other showcased G&H solutions for the life sciences sector will include high-precision med-tech capabilities which range from project management to rapid product prototyping. Next-gen medical device startups are those that will be particularly interested in visiting this G&H space, since the service line combines the R&D efforts of two key G&H sites, G&H | ITL and G&H | GS, renowned for their design efficiency. Attendees will also have the chance to inquire about G&H’s Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) modules, and the popular polymer optics line.

The same Vice President of Optics and Optical Systems Lars Sandström, together with Simon Miner, Director of Business Development for Life Sciences at G&H, will be hosting this space for product inquiries and other questions.
